Medical Supplies Director Challenges Remand Order..!
The Court Of Appeal postponed announcing the verdict with regard to a writ application filed by Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, the Director of the Medical Supplies Division, to the 26th of April.
The application challenges the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court order to remand Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, the Director of the Medical Supplies Division, over the medicine procurement scandal.
Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake has been held in remand custody in relation to allegations surrounding the procurement of substandard antibody vaccines.
Initially slated for today, the pronouncement was postponed by Court of Appeal Judge D. N. Samarakoon.
Respondents named in the petition include the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigation Department, and the Maligakanda Magistrate.
In the petition, the petitioner disavows any involvement in the aforementioned incident, asserting compliance with directives from superiors.
The petitioner contends that the arrest and remand, purportedly for misappropriation of state property, contravene legal statutes.
Seeking legal recourse, the petitioner implores the Writ Order to halt proceedings in the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court and to grant bail under any stipulated conditions.
Representing the petitioner, President's Counsel Dr. Romesh De Silva and Sarath Jayamanna appeared before the Court of Appeal.
