‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ special luxury tourist train inaugurated
The Ministry of Transport says that the special luxury tourist train ‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ will travel between Colombo and Badulla 3 days a week.
It will operate from Colombo Fort to Badulla every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at 6.30 a.m. and from Badulla to Colombo Fort on every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 8.00 a.m.
The train will stop at 10 tourist attractions and viewpoints along the way.
Set to be dedicated for passenger transportation following the inauguration, the train fare for a first-class ticket will be Rs. 8,000, Rs. 6,000 for second-class while a third-class ticket will be priced at Rs. 5,000 between Colombo Fort to Badulla/Ella.
A ticket for both departure and arrival costs Rs 12,000.
This Dunhinda Odyssey was been added to the train service to mark the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of train travel from Badulla to Colombo by the British.
Meanwhile, a train with special viewing facilities called "Calypso" without round covers too is scheduled to be inaugurated by Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
This calypso train is designed to enjoy the natural beauty and has entertainment features including food and music.
The Ministry of Transport says that there will be a charge of Rs 6,000 for two journeys.
