Nutritious Meals for Primary Students: 2024 School Meals Program Launched
Under the auspices of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the 2024 School Meals Program was inaugurated today at Sujatha Girls’ College in Narahenpita. The program aims to promote the well-being of students through nutritious meals.
The program targets students in the primary sector, spanning from first grade to fifth grade.
A substantial main meal will be served to all eligible students.
The meal service will take place between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM, ensuring that students start their day with nourishment.
The program adheres to recommendations provided by nutritionists.
In addition to the central program led by the President, the Ministry of Education has organized inaugural events at the provincial level across the entire island.
The program ismplemented in 9,134 government schools, encompasssing all primary grade students, and also includes schools with fewer than 100 students.
The government has allocated a substantial budget of 16,600 million rupees for this initiative.
Furthermore, international organizations such as the World Food Program and the United States Department of Agriculture contribute to support this program.
