School sports events must be held after Sinhala and Tamil New Year: Instructions from Education Minister

The Met Department has warned that the prevailing hot weather may increase further in the next few days.

Director General Athula Karunanayake said that from March 22, some parts of the island may experience some showers in the evening.

However, he said that this rain is not enough to make the current hot weather go away.

He that since the sun will be at its peak from April 5 to 15, the heat may increase.

The highest temperature in the past 24 hours, ending at 8:30 am today, was recorded in the Kurunegala area. That value is 38.3 degrees Celsius.

The hottest temperature in Colombo was 33.9 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha reiterates that inter-house sports events in schools should be held after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
