Two children aged 15 years and four years have died in separate drowning incidents reported in the last 24 hours ending at 12 noon today.

The Police stated that a 15-year-old boy had been rescued after drowning while bathing with a group of relatives in the Mahaweli River in the Pallekele area in Kandy last afternoon.

The teenager was pronounced dead while being admitted to the Kandy Hospital. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Welikanda in Empitiya.

Meanwhile, a 4-year-old girl has had drowned while bathing in the Deduru Oya in Thithamadama in Chillaw with a group of people last evening.

The child who was in critical condition after being rescued was pronounced dead while being admitted to the Chillaw Hospital.

The victim is a resident of Kurunegala. The child had died while on a leisure trip with her family. The Chillaw Police is conducting investigations.
