Police warn Bambalapitiya schoolboy over fake complaint.
The Police have warned an 11-year-old schoolboy over a fake complaint on an alleged abduction attempt, it was reported.
According to Lankadeepa, the Police stated that the child had filed a fake complaint with the Narahenpita Police.
In his complaint, he had claimed that a group in a van had attempted to abduct him while returning from school, but he had managed to escape from them.
However, during interrogation, the child had revealed that he had created the story after watching a video on social media on recent reports of attempts to abduct children in Sri Lanka.
Investigations have revealed that the student from a boys’ school in Bambalapitiya had informed his father that a group in a van had attempted to abduct him while returning home from school along Park Road in Colombo on Tuesday (23).
The student had further informed the father that he had escaped from them after which the father and son had filed a complaint with the Police.
The Narahenpita Police which had launched an investigation based on the complaint had found that no such incident had taken place after monitoring CCTV footage from the area on the said day.
