Flood Warning: Water levels rise in Ratnapura

Water levels of the Kalu Ganga (River) have risen to a minor flood level in the Ratnapura District due to a torrential downpour experienced in on Friday (13).

According to the District Secretary, many areas in the district remain inundated while people living on the banks of the Kalu Ganga, and in landslide prone areas have been asked to remain extra vigilant.

At present a number of areas in the Ratnapura District remain flooded, and News 1st correspondents said the water levels in the area are rising.

The Department of Meteorology announced that the showery condition over South-western part (Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts) of the island.

Heavy showers above 100 mm can occur at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, it added.
