STF opens fire at cab speeding past checkpoint (Video)

Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel at a road checkpoint in Point Pedro, Jaffna have opened fire at a cab this morning.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the officers had opened fire after the cab had defied an order to stop at the checkpoint.

He said the checkpoint has been setup to protect a natural sand mound in the area, and the cab had been travelling from the direction of the sand mound.

The cab is reported to have crashed into the barriers at the checkpoint after which it had also attempted to runover a group of STF officers who were in front.

The STF officers had opened fire, and despite a flat tyre the cab had sped off.

DIG Ajith Rohana said information has been received that two individuals with gunshot wounds have been admitted to the Point Pedro hospital.

He said the two individuals aged 23 and 26 may be the suspects who had travelled in the cab.
The Police Spokesman said the Point Pedro Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
