15-year-old school boy arrested for driving public transport bus
A 15-year-old school boy has been arrested by the Middeniya Police on charges of driving a 53-seater bus used for public transportation.
The Middeniya Police have initiated legal action against the father of the teenager, for permitting him to drive the bus on the main road.
The boy who had driven the bus from Weeraketiya to Middeniya had been taken into custody at the Middeniya Town by officials deployed to inspect vehicles.
Investigations had revealed that the boy was a 15-year-old school student who had just completed the GCE Ordinary Level Examination and was not in possession of a valid driving licence at the time of his arrest.
The father of the boy had thereafter been summoned to the Middeniya Police, where statements had been recorded from him and the teenager.
The two individuals had then been released on bail, and had been informed to appear before the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
