Woman arrested with over Rs 8M in cash
The Police have arrested a woman who was travelling in a three-wheeler along with over Rs 8 million in cash. She was arrested as she was unable to reveal how she had accumulated the funds.
The arrest had taken place during a raid that was carried out based on a tip-off received by the Pelmadulla Police.
The suspect was a 44-year-old resident of Opanayaka.
Police Media Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that Rs 8,031,000 was recovered in a bag. However, when questioned, she had been unable to explain how she had received the money.
Investigations are underway to determine whether the money was earned from a crime or money earned from drug trafficking or money given to her by another party
