Sunil Handunnetti files petition over sugar import scam
A Fundamental Rights petition was filed at the Supreme Court today against those involved in the sugar import scam.
The petition was filed by former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti.
The former MP claimed that the State had incurred a loss of Rs. 15.9 billion, due to a reduction of the sugar tax.
In his petition, he further called on the Court to initiate legal action against those responsible for the scam.
The Finance Ministry had submitted a report on scam to the Parliament Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) on Tuesday (09).
