COVID-19 will be contained while taking development forward – State Minister Lanza
Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure State Minister Nimal Lanza said that the Government will protect the people from COVID-19 and take forward development in the country.
The State Minister inaugurated several road development projects in the Bandaragama Electorate in the Kalutara District on October 15. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) granted Rs. 162 million to develop five km of rural roads under the Second Integrated Road Investment Programme. Kelesgamuwa, Weniwelpitiya and Lenawara Thibbatugoda roads will be carpeted and developed under the project.
State Minister Lanza said that 790 km of roads that were started by the Asian Development Bank with the assistance of the Good Governance Government have been stopped halfway. Many of them are in the Kalutara District. The Attorney General's Department has instructed to call for tenders for these roads and resume construction in the next two months.
“The Ministry has received about 9,000 proposals to replace the dilapidated bridges and small bridges. The Government will build them in the next four years. We will set up a bridge project in every electorate on December 1,” he said.
State Minister Nimal Lansa said that the President has instructed to construct 30,000 km of road next year to achieve the target of 100,000 km of roads.
