Ports unions meet PM today
A special discussion will be held today (01) to resolve the issue regarding the handing over of the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port to India.
The discussion will be held between the Ports Trade Unions and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa .
It is reported that the discussion will be held at 10.00 am at the Prime Minister's official residence in Wijerama.
Meanwhile, the Committee appointed by the Cabinet to look into the handing over of the Eastern Terminal to India met yesterday (31) afternoon.
The report containing the recommendations of the seven-member committee was handed over to the Minister in charge of the subject Rohitha Abeygunawardena last night.
Accordingly, the relevant report will be presented to the Cabinet today.
An Extraordinary Gazette Notification was also issued declaring the operations of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority as an essential public service.
