100 areas in legal system to be changed
Justice Minister Ali Sabri stated that around 100 areas of the country's legal system that need to be changed urgently were identified.
He said that necessary steps have been taken to change 37 areas and committees were appointed to recommend changes to be made in other areas.
The Minister stated this when the Hiru News team inquired about the changing ordinances.
Last week the Minister of Justice had submitted several papers to the Cabinet.
These include amendments to the Religious and Emigration Act, Section 53 of the Penal Code relating to the death penalty, the Minimum Wage of Employees Act, the Money Laundering Act, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism.
Last week, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure and the removal of inconsistencies in the law relating to statutory rape.
