Ranil will enter Parliament at the right time – UNP
United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to fill the National List seat of the party to enter Parliament, depending on the country’s situation.
Chairman of the UNP Vajira Abeywardene said the former Prime Minister will enter Parliament taking into consideration the situation of the country over the next few years.
Stating that Wickremesinghe will enter Parliament at the right time, Abeywradene told reporters that the National List seat will not be filled by anyone else until the Party leader decides when to enter Parliament.
According to the Daily Mirror, he said a final decision on the National List seat will be made by Wickremesinghe after the party considers the country’s situation by August next year.
“The Party leader has informed us that it is not the right time for him to enter Parliament at present, and as a result, no one else will also enter Parliament via the UNP’s National List seat on a temporary basis,’ Vajira Abeywardene said.
He pointed out that the Constitution of Sri Lanka consists of a provision for the National List seat to remain open.
