Work on Nainamadama, Iranawila-Chilaw road expedited
Construction work on the B640-Nainamadama, Iranawila-Chilaw road on the Peliyagoda-Puttalam main road has been expedited on the instructions of State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure Nimal Lansa, to ease traffic congestion in Wennappuwa, Marawila, Mahawewa, Madampe and Chilaw.
The Minister gave these instructions during a tour to inspect construction work of the stretch of road from Nainamadama to Chilaw via Iranavila on Saturday (10).
Accordingly, the construction of 20.75 km stretch of road which runs parallel to the coastal area has been expedited. The cost of this road, which will be constructed under two lanes, is Rs. 800 million.
State Minister Lansa instructed the project officers to construct a cycle lane in the Iranavila area and a jogging track in the Chilaw area parallel to the construction of this road.
He also instructed officials to plant Wetakeiya plants to prevent sea erosion and Magul Karada plants along the coastal area on both sides of the road.
The construction of the road will bring many economic benefits to the people of the area, including the promotion of local and foreign tourism, and the facilitation of the business activities of the fishing community.
State Minister of Rural and Regional Drinking Water Supply Project Development Sanath Nishantha, R.W.R. Pemasiri, Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Executive Engineer, Chilaw. B.P.K.G. Kapukotuwa and others were present on the occasion.
