86 million tons of iron discovered in the Kurampola iron ore deposit - Environment Ministry
An investigation carried out by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has revealed that at least 86 million tons of iron can be extracted from the Buttala - Kurampola iron ore deposit.
The Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera stated that excavations are being carried out in this iron ore which covers an area of about 26 square kilometers and in the Chilaw-Panirenda iron ore deposit under the government's program.
A discussion was also held between the Ministers of Environment and Industries in this regard yesterday, where discussions were held to hand over the relevant iron mines to the Ministry of Industries.
