With schools closed, cruelty against children increases

Cruelty against children has increased considerably with the closure of schools for several months now owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, says the UNICEF.

In unsecure homes, three girls had become pregnant in Sri Lanka.

Schools were closed from March and attempts at their reopening were unsuccessful.

Less than 90 schooling days were possible this year, out of an average 200 days at school.

The worst hit were schoolchildren in the western province, who managed even less than 50 days.
