Fake currency notes in circulation, Police request public to be vigilant
The Police have requested the public to remain vigilant on the circulation of fake currency notes during the festive season.
Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said fake currency amounting to Rs. 20,000 was seized in Biyagama last night.
He said 3 suspects, including a female were arrested with 20 counterfeit Rs. 1000 notes.
The machine used to print the fake currency notes was found from the Pitipana area in Homagama.
The Biyagama Police is conducting further investigations, while the suspects will be produced in Court today.
DIG Ajith Rohana urged the public to be vigilant and check the currency notes when engaging in shopping during the festive season to prevent from falling victim to counterfeit currency notes.
