Health authorities' attention directed to new COVID variant from UK

Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera stated that the attention of the Health Ministry was directed to the new COVID-19 variant that has spread in the UK.

Speaking in this regard, Senior Medical Laboratory Technician Keerthi Wickramaratne said that while Sri Lanka has proper and established quarantine protocols in place, a small mishap in the distribution process, or in suppliers could cause emergence of the new coronavirus cluster.

Accordingly, the Civil Aviation Authority Chairperson stated that the flights from the UK to Sri Lanka will be suspended from 02:00 a.m. tomorrow (23).
