View of 'Christmas Star' from Sri Lanka (Video)
The ‘Great Jupiter Saturn Conjunction’ or the appearance of the ‘Christmas Star’ in the night sky took place yesterday (21).
While the two planets pass each other frequently and every 20 years Jupiter and Saturn do align, this is the first time in 400 years that the planets align to this degree. And it is also the first time in 800 years that the event occurs at night.
In Sri Lanka, the Arthur C. Clarke Centre had made arrangements for the skywatchers to witness the phenomenon.
Debunking the rumors, Indika Medagangoda, Senior Research Astronomer at the Arthur C. Clarke Center, said that rumors of hurricane-like weather changes with the location of these unique planets are untrue.
The exclusive footage of the event by the Arthur C. Clarke Centre is as below.
