The Director General of Health Services confirmed five (05) deaths caused by Covid-19 virus infection yesterday and accordingly the total number of deaths due to Covid- 19 infection in Sri Lanka increased to 176.

01.The deceased was a 71 year old male from Panagoda. He was transferred from the Base Hospital Pimbura to Base Hospital Mulleriyawa where he died on 18.12.2020. The cause of death is blood poisoning and Covid pneumonia.

02.The deceased was a 52 year old male from Colombo 08. He died on 17.12.2020 in his residence. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia.

03.The deceased was a 71 year old female from Colombo 12. She was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus and transferred from General Hospital Colombo to Base Hospital Pimbura where she died on 19.12.2020. The cause of death is blood poisoning due to Covid 19 infection and a cancer.

04.The deceased was a 44 year old male from Colombo 02. He was transferred from General Hospital Colombo to Chest Hospital, Welisara where he died on 19.12.2020. The cause of death is an acute lung infection due to Covid-19 virus infection.

05.The deceased was a 49 year old male from Bandaragama. He died on admission to Base Hospital Horana on 19.12.2020. The cause of death is a chestinfection due to Covid 19 virus.

 

Meanwhile, another 594 coronavirus infections were reported yesterday, exceeding the total to over 37,000 (37,261). There are over 8,000  (8,818)active cases at present. 

Two employees of the Kegalle General Hospital were infected with the coronavirus and one ward was temporarily closed. Steps were taken to transfer those receiving treatment in that ward to the Mawanella Base Hospital.
