Ten more hospitals approved to conduct PCR tests

Deputy Director General of Laboratory Services at the Ministry of Health Dr. Saman Rathnayake says that the total number of PCR tests carried out on a daily basis will be increased to 20,000.

He said that 05 government hospitals and 05 private hospitals have already been granted approval to carry out POCR testing.

Speaking at a press conference in Kandy, Dr. Rathnayake  said that presently the capacity is around 13,000-14,000 PCR tests per day and that they have planned to increase this up to 20,000 very soon.

He said that for this purpose several additional hospitals have been approved for PCR testing and that this includes 05 private hospitals. “This will allow to conduct 20,000 PCR tests per day in Sri Lankan hospitals,” he said.
