New Chief Prelate for Ramanna Nikaya named
Most Venerable Makkulawe Wimala Anu Nayaka Thero has been appointed as the Maha Nayaka Thero of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya.
Makkuluwe Wimala Thero had previously held the title of Adhikarana Sangha Nayake of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya and has been awarded the honorary title ‘Aggamaha Panditha’ by Myanmar in March 2019.
This is following the passing away of the Mahanayake of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya Most Venerable Napane Pemasiri Thero.
Pemasiri Thero passed away on Tuesday (November 17) at the age of 98 years while receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Hospital.
The final rites of the late Pemasiri Thero will be held this afternoon (22). Thereby, the police have taken steps to restrict traffic in the Kandy area.
