How did foreign liquor in sealed container turn to water at warehouse? Customs launches probe
“When the container arrived in 2018, it was declared that it contained foreign liquor bottles totalling 11,257 litres. It was sealed. When we opened it on Thursday, we found 1,179 boxes of one-litre mineral water bottles.” Sri Lanka Custom spokesman Sunil Jayarathna told reporters.
Customs suspects that the foreign liquor, which was imported on a duty-free basis, had been released to the local market without paying the levies due to the state.
