President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to make a special address to the nation tonight
Today marks the completion of the first year of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's as President of Sri Lanka.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was elected the 7th Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka at the Presidential Election held on 16 November last year, becoming the first non-professional politician to be elected to the post of Executive President in the history of Sri Lanka as well as the first former Army officer to hold that post.
As the candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who obtained 52.25% of the total votes at the Presidential election, received 1.3 million more votes than his nearest rival.
The President was sworn in on November 18 in front of the historic Ruwanweli Stupa in Anuradhapura.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who took on the presidency with a vision of Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour has been implementing his decisions for the past one year to ensure security, social, economic and other development initiatives of the country in the midst of the Coronavirus Challenge.
Meanwhile, the President's Media Division announced that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will address the nation at 8.30 pm tonight and make a special statement, t earlier.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's birthday also falls today. The second phase of the Kelani South Bank Water Supply Project, which was constructed for the benefit of the people of Colombo and Gampaha, will be opened to the public today under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
It will be in Biyagama - Pattivila. This will provide water to the people of Kelaniya, Peliyagoda, Biyagama, Kandana, Pamunugama, Katunayake, Katana, Mahara, as well as Kadawatha, Ragama, Welisara, Ja-Ela and Ekala.
