'KPop Demon Hunters' sequel eyed for wide theatrical release
“KPop Demon Hunters” could be headed to the big screen in a much wider release for its upcoming sequel.
According to Deadline, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed the plan during Bloomberg’s Screentime.
“When the ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ sequel comes, you can expect a very broad theatrical release,” Sarandos was quoted as saying.
Sarandos said that Netflix is willing to take a certain level of risk on theatrical releases when a film has the potential to generate significant box-office upside.
“So, for ‘Narnia,’ for ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ that’s why they’re gonna get big, broad, global release. But I think in the other ones where it’s kind of in the middle, that’s where it gets tougher.”
“KPop Demon Hunters” has become a major streaming success for Netflix. According to Deadline, the animated film amassed 325.1 million views during its first 90 days on the platform and spent 63 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10.
The film follows K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who secretly work as demon hunters while navigating their lives as performers.
