Over 13,900 COVID-19 cases, 8,800 recoveries

According to the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients detected in the county has increased to 13,929 by 10 am yesterday.

The Epidemiology Unit sources said that around 8,880 of them have recovered while 5,014 remain in hospitals.

The total number of persons who tested positive for the virus in the Minuwangoda coronavirus cluster rose to 10,446 by 10 am yesterday.

According to National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOPCO) statistics, 1,041 of them are factory employees, 1,007 persons from the Peliyagoda Fish Market and the balance 8,403 are locally-identified contacts of those garment factory-infected employees and the Fish Market.

Of these, 412 employees of the Minuwangoda Garment Factory have fully recovered and 4,449 of their associates have been discharged from hospitals.

The NOCOCO further stated that around 10,632 PCR tests were carried out across the country only during the day Sunday (08) and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 602,850. To-date, 63,921 individuals have left for homes after quarantining. By yesterday morning (9), 562 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals. All of them are identified as close contacts of the Minuwangoda garment factory-infected employees who were in quarantine at Quarantine Centres.
