Suspect Arrested in Dehiwala Shooting With Foreign-manufactured Revolver

Police have arrested the suspect involved in the shooting incident on Wanaratne Road, Dehiwala, along with a foreign-manufactured revolver.

Officers from the Western Province Southern Crime Division apprehended the suspect in Kottawa.

He is a 35 year old resident of Dehiwala.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect had previously joined the army but failed to report for duty and later left the service under the 2013 general amnesty.

During further questioning, the suspect led police to the revolver used in the shooting, which was recovered from an abandoned house in Dehiwala.

The suspect has been identified as the shooter in the attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl in Bodhiwatta, Kohuwala on December 30.

Investigations indicate that these crimes were carried out under the direction of an organized crime and drug trafficker currently abroad.

The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court today.

A previous shooting on Wanaratne road, Dehiwala on December 6 resulted in one death and one injury.

Two shooters were reportedly involved, using two firearms.

One shooter, a Kalubowila resident, was arrested on December 17 with a locally manufactured 16-bore firearm and remanded after court proceedings.
