
CCTV Cameras Help Identify Over 4,000 Traffic Violators
Sri Lanka Police initiated legal proceedings against more than 4,000 drivers who were identified as traffic violators through CCTV cameras installed around the Colombo city.
Senior Superintendent of Police and Police Spokesperson, Buddhika Manathunga, stated that the police had installed CCTV cameras at various locations in Colombo in February of last year.
According to Manathunga, these cameras have been instrumental in identifying traffic offenders, leading to fines or court actions against the violators.
The police spokesperson further emphasized that the program to detect traffic violations using CCTV cameras is ongoing and continuous.
In addition, the police reported that within the current year, there have been 724 fatal traffic accidents, resulting in 764 deaths.
