Dengue : 80,000+ cases & 47 deaths in 2023.
During the past few months, an increased trend in the number of dengue cases have been reported in Sri Lanka.
An increased number of cases have been reported from Colombo and Gampaha Districts.
A total of 80,222 dengue patients have been reported so far in 2023, said the National Dengue Control Unit, adding that 16,948 of these cases were reported from the Colombo District.
In addition, a total of 15,419 dengue cases were reported in the Gampaha District.
The National Dengue Control Unit said that 61 Dengue High Risk Zones have been identified across the country.
Moreover, 47 people succumbed to dengue this year, it added.
The National Dengue Control Unit is urging the public to ensure that their surroundings are clean, and mosquito breeding grounds are destroyed without delay.
