Mahara Prison unrest: 63 inmates receive lenient sentences
Gampaha District Judge Ravindra Ranjan Bandara today (02) sentenced 63 inmates to two months in prison on various charges including disorderly conduct during the Mahara prison unrest after they pleaded guilty.
The Gampaha District Judge read out the charges filed against 68 inmates under the Prisons Ordinance.
The five inmates were remanded until the 08 February for further questioning after they pleaded not guilty.
Another 50 inmates who pleaded guilty were sentenced to two months in prison on 26 January and 12 others who pleaded not guilty to the charges were remanded until the 08 February.
