Total number of COVID cases in SL rises to 33,478
With the 688 COVID patients that were identified yesterday (14), the total number of coronavirus patients reported in the country increased to 33,478.
The Government Information Department stated that 685 among the patients identified yesterday (14) were associated with the Minuwangoda Brandix factory, Peliyagoda fish market and Prison coronavirus clusters. The total number of patients reported from the clusters has increased to 29,837.
With the two coronavirus deaths that were reported yesterday (14), the death toll increased to 154.
The first victim was a 73-year-old woman from Bandaragama. The cause of death was identified to be a cardiac arrest due to high blood pressure.
The second victim was a 65-year-old man from Colombo 14. He had passed away at a private hospital in Colombo. The cause of death was identified to be COVID pneumonia.
The Epidemiology Unit stated that 9,015 persons are receiving treatment at hospitals for the infection, while the number of recoveries stands at 24,309.
Epidemiology Unit Director Dr. Sudath Samaraweera stated that persons who travel outstation from the Western Province must refrain from roaming in various places. He stated the above while addressing a media briefing held at the Health Promotion Bureau.
Speaking further Dr. Samaraweera stated that it is the responsibility of the people to adhere to health guidelines while shopping during the upcoming festive season.
