A pregnant woman who was receiving treatment for coronavirus infection died at the Karapitiya Hospital yesterday (09).

Our regional correspondent stated that the body of the deceased pregnant mother was laid to rest at the Dadalla crematorium yesterday (09) afternoon according to quarantine rules.

The deceased has been identified as a 44 year old woman residing in the Wilpita area in Akuressa.

She had conceived with in vitro fertilization (IVF) after failing to conceiver.

She has decided to have a party to celebrate her joy after hearing the news of her conception.

She had a party at her house on New Year's Day to celebrate the joy of conceiving.

And according to reports several people have attended the function. 

Subsequently, when she went to work, her mother has been confirmed for covid infection. 

Therefore, she was also given a PCR test.

The PCR test revealed that she was also infected with the virus. 

She was later admitted to the Mulleriyawa Hospital where she was treated for a lung infection and was transferred to the Karapitiya Hospital on the 29th for further treatment.

She also gave birth to a stillborn baby the day before yesterday.

She died later after delivering the baby.

Meanwhile, coronavirus tests were conducted by the Athuraliya Medical Officer of Health on a group of people who attended the party held at her house.

The test have confirmed that 17 persons who attended the party as covid infected.
