Wickramarachchi Indigenous Medical College, Gampaha converted to a University (Video)

The inaugural ceremony of the conversion of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Indigenous Medical College into a University was held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo this afternoon (04).

The President's Media Division stated that the President had activated the University website and signed the University Guest Book.

The official logo, flag and anthem were unveiled at the same time.

Ayurveda Chakravarthi Panditha G.P. Wickramarachchi established the Gampaha Siddhayurveda College in 1929 to teach Ayurvedic methods theoretically and practically to students studying Ayurveda. 

The number belonging to the first student group was 20.

Wickramarachchi Medical College was upgraded in 1995 to the status of a University Institute affiliated to the University of Kelaniya.

With the objective of promoting it as a Center for Indigenous Medical Education in the South Asian Region, the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Indigenous Medical University, Sri Lanka has been renamed and launched with effect from 01st March 2021 

This is the 16th University in Sri Lanka. The number of new degree courses added to it is 07.

A group of 50 students per batch a total of 350 students will be taken for the year 2021.

Recruitment will be based on the results of the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2020
