NASA says its Perseverance rover sent to Mars has successfully landed.

It is located in the Jezero area, a crater near its equator.

The US$ 2.7 billion six-wheeled robotic rover is the latest technology ever built and will be tested on Mars for two years.

It will examine evidence of ancient microbial life on the planet.

Another purpose of the robotic spacecraft is to collect rock samples that could provide clues whether life ever existed on the Red Planet.
