Three-wheeler driver arrested for sexually abusing woman injured in accident

The Kalutara- North Police have arrested a three-wheeler driver on charges of sexually abusing a mother of three after threatening her with a machete.

The man who had pretended to help the woman who was struck by another three-wheeler, had instead taken her to a plantation in the Kalutara South Colony area where he had sexually abused her.

The woman was later admitted to the Nagoda hospital, while the suspect has been identified as a 32-year-old father of one.

The Police said the woman who is an employee of an institution in Wadduwa had been knocked down by a three-wheeler while she was walking towards her home on Sunday night (27).

Two men on a motorcycle had seen the injured woman and had instructed her to go to hospital, when a nearby three- wheeler driver had volunteered to take her to hospital.

The man had taken her to a nearby clinic where the doctor had instructed that she be admitted to the Nagoda hospital. The woman who had refused to get admitted at the hospital due to her young children at home had requested the three-wheeler driver to take her home.

The woman had instructed the driver to take her close to a school in Kalutara where her husband was informed to wait.

However, the three-wheeler driver had driven off in the opposite direction and had informed the woman’s husband that they were headed towards him.

The man had thereafter taken the woman to an isolated place via cross roads and had sexually abused her after threatening her. He had later fled the area along with the woman’s mobile phone.

The woman had thereafter approached a store in the area and had informed a woman at the store of the incident, following which the latter had informed the injured woman’s husband.

The Police said the woman’s husband had thereafter arrived at the location, and had filed a complaint with the Kalutara South Police on the incident, after which she was admitted to the Nagoda hospital.

The suspect was thereafter arrested after investigations were launched by the Kalutara North Police using CCTV footage from the area.
