COVID-19 cases in Sri Lankan prisons continue to rise

he number of COVID-19 cases reported from Sri Lankan prisons rose to 821, following the detection of 22 new COVID- 19 cases.

Commissioner of Prisons Administration/Rehabilitation and Skill Development Chandana Ekanayake said 12 of those cases were detected from the Welikada Prison, 09 from the Boossa Maximum Security Prison, and 01 from the Colombo Remand Prison.

Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 cases detected from the Welikada Prison is at 323.

The total number of cases from the Bossaa Maximum Security Prison is at 70 and a total of 46 cases were reported from the Colombo Remand Prison.

In addition, 46 Prison Officers were exposed to COVID-19 and 03 of them recovered, he added.

Commissioner of Prisons Administration/Rehabilitation and Skill Development Chandana Ekanayake said 113 prisoners have also recovered.
