Coronavirus numbers exceed 18,000

The Government Information Department stated that 5 more people have died due to the coronavirus infection yesterday. The total number of deaths due to the virus is 66. The five deaths were reported yesterday from Colombo and its surroundings

A 65-year-old male, a resident of Colombo 12 has died after he was admitted to the Poonani Treatment Center having being diagnosed with the coronavirus infection. He was later admitted to the Welikanda Base Hospital where he succumbed due to high blood pressure at the time of his death.

A 69-year-old female from Ratmalana died of coronavirus infection aggravated by complications of diabetes and high blood pressure and died at home.

A 71-year-old female from Kirulapone with high blood pressure and diabetes died at home

An 82-year-old male from Dematagoda has died at home.

An 81-year-old female, a resident of Colombo 02, died at the National Hospital. The cause of death was noted as pneumonia along with coronavirus infection.

With the identification of 398 new infections yesterday, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 18,075. Accordingly Divulapitiya and Peliyagoda cluster is at 14,568 and the number of hospitalized patients is 5,799. With 404 people recovering yesterday, the total number of people infected with the virus and recovered has increased to 12,210. At present 3,281 persons are being quarantined in 33 quarantine centers run by the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, 24 police divisions have been further isolated islandwide. The Air Force launched a special operation yesterday using drone cameras to search for violators of quarantine laws in the isolated areas. The police stated that 95 persons were arrested for violating the quarantine laws. The operations were carried out in Kotahena, Keselwatta, Wattala and Ja-Ela police divisions.
