LPL: Gibbs back, Whatmore out

Former South Africa cricketer Hershelle Gibbs who controversially pulled out of the commentary panel of the Lanka Premier League last week, has now confirmed his inclusion in the panel.

“Ok the air has been cleared and we good to go for me being part of the commentary team for the @LPLT20_ @ipg_productions @OfficialSLC. See you soon,” he tweeted.

Sri Lanka Cricket had initially announced that Hershelle Gibbs will be among the 6 high profile commentators joining the LPL.

Gibbs had also confirmed his participation in the tournament on social media.

However, last week, Gibbs tweeted it was news to him that he will be part of the Lanka Premier League Commentary panel.

When NewsWire inquired in this regard, Gibbs responded “They kept me waiting 3 weeks only to tell me this morn it’s not gonna happen. They shouldn’t have advertised it in the first place Man shrugging there you go”.

Following Gibbs’ statement, he was excluded from the revised panel of commentators announced for the Lanka Premier League Cricket tournament scheduled to kickoff later in November in Hambantota.

Gibb’s tweet today implies that the alleged misunderstanding between him and the organizers of the LPL tournament has been resolved.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror reported that Sri Lanka 1996 World Cup winning coach Dav Whatmore has pulled out of the Lanka Premier League.

Whatmore was earlier named as coach for the Colombo Kings team led by Angelo Mathews.
