Doctors’ retirement age increased

The Cabinet has approved a proposal made by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to increase the retirement age for government medical doctors from 60 to 61 years.

Plantation Industries and Export Agriculture Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana told a media briefing held at the Government Information Department, that this decision was taken considering the shortage of medical doctors prevailing in the country.

He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had decided to appoint a committee to look into the possibility of raising the retirement age of other technical related public sector employees as well.
